Sitting on my couch
Far away from home
Never thought I'd be
So sensible
Loosening the stubborn braids
Of childhood
Listening to what people say
For my own good
I have an Apartment in the Universe
Wake up early in the morning
To find more time to kill
It's killing me now anyhow
Might as well fill it
I'll go where my skills are needed in the universe
Between jobs, terrified and free
At lease for the coming month my
Savings will suffice me
But I owe rent in the universe
I got my degrees in the humanities
You'd think by now I'd have saved the world somehow
But I start my nine to five on Monday

Foolish Human
03:50
|
|||
Foolish human you thought it would be easy
Everything nowadays seems easy
Building blocks for life ready set on Mars
Make this life of ours look like ancient ruins
Fruit that's overripe and nearly rotten
Just throw it out
Abundance in Eden has run down demand for decency
Everything nowadays seems cheap
Maybe we can run maybe we can hide maybe we can find another speck of life sustaining dust beyond the clouds
Don't hold your breath now
The ego has landed
And we've won the race
The astronauts say the most marvelous thing about space is the view of the Earth
Everything nowadays seems getting worse
But to find another paradise like ours
All the science is reaching for the stars
Don't wait to say the last goodbye
One small step for man is one misstep for mankind
Who thought it would be easy

Sicker Breed
03:25
|
|||
There was never a sicker breed of human being
Than one that failed to suffer sufficiently
Shielded from death by the TV screen
Holding their breath through the violent scene
Honey turn off the news it's depressing
Brown skin bodies laying by the wayside
brings the tear gas too my eyes
desensitized to the violence
convinced of our own innocence
we are a superpower but carbon is the kryptonite
we export war and fear of what our military might
It's a bird it's a plane in the sky
The US refueling Saudi airstrikes
Turned our bodies into luxury apartments for our minds
with ice machines on every floor and machine guns
guarding every door
the CEO boasts of projected growth
I have to laugh when the future aint so bright as his slideshow
put the apocalypse in terms of economics
So the American can understand
Your christian friend smiles knowingly
have you ever heard of a little thing
called the book of Revelations?
Sure wish people, people who believe in heaven and not the present
would stop making decisions about how long I live
cause this is it for me
we are guilty of innocence
no one over 200 years old should still be acting like a child
who doesn't know his own strength when he shakes up the fish bowl

No Zion
03:18
|
|||
I've no homeland, I've no people
I'm an orphan, I've no Zion
There is nowhere I step off the plane and say
"at last I'm home" - everywhere's the same
God does not live in gaited communities
Much more comfortable among the refugees
God does not draw lines through desert sand
Take from Palestine the promised land
I had a dream I was walking in Yisrael
Overcome with love and grief
I knelt to kiss the ground where I was walking on
Instead I reared back and I spat on it
Cause I been told the settlements were all bought and sold
And it was all perfectly legal, had to have somewhere to go
after all, never forget, I will never forget

Fish in a Barrel
02:26
|
|||
I pledge to stand still with my arms outstretched
With a target on my chest
Glory glory let freedom ring
Go in the town and paint it all red
Sunday best, better invest in something bullet proof
Arrested without incident, innocent until proven innocent
America never once was to me
But I'm too poor to just pack it up and leave
So I pledge to wait my turn
And what an honor it is to stay on this side of the gun
The orphaned infant in the arms of the European immigrant
Married to the anti-immigrant president
Whose words echo in the manifesto
Of the mass murderer who brought it all full circle
If I live to tell my tale
It'll be one of another fish in a barrel

Wildfires
02:55
|
|||
I never know when to throw the towel in
On a sinking ship should I enjoy my life or
Fight until the bitter end?
With what's left of a stolen future
What will you do now
Children of the Earth
Them, who would benefit from this crime
Think they'll die before
The consequences turn dire
Wildfires, storms, floods, strange diseases, refugees from lands no longer fit for human habitation
We'll just crank up the AC, close the door, and pray for a quick death
But ain't none of it quick
Mama, have ya heard the news?

I'll be the Light
02:56
|
|||
I'll be the light, never was one to blindly follow
I'm gonna look in the mirror and fall in love once and for all
In a dark, wicked world, I will be the light
And when I look in the mirror and fall in love once and for all
It won't be my ego, it won't be my pride, I will be the light
